Cannabis Club Legality in the US
A cannabis clinic permits the sale of products containing marijuana for medicinal purposes. In California, the majority of the clinics offer a variety of medicinal marijuana products. Medical cannabis alleviates pain caused from the symptoms of certain illnesses such as arthritis, cancer, chronic pain, and HIV/AIDS.
While it is still illegal to grow and use cannabis in many parts of the United States, marijuana cooperatives continually strive to increase the public’s awareness of issues that exist between the co-ops and the government. Marijuana cooperatives or Cannabis Clubs have the job of making sure that patients have the proper medical documentation, supervision, and regulation to use medicinal marijuana.
As a result of Senate Bill 420₁, marijuana centers have to comply with stated policy on how medicinal marijuana should be cultivated, processed, and distributed to patients. Under the Bill, patients and caregivers from a cannabis club should not exceed the limits instituted by the medical marijuana law passed in California. The law sets a maximum guideline of 6 mature plants or 12 immature plants and up to 8 ounces of processed cannabis flowers. However, a recent court case ruled that setting maximum limits on plant counts was unconstitutional and such counts should be seen on a case by case basis. It’s clear that legislation and regulation regarding medicinal marijuana will continue to evolve, so it’s important for cannabis clubs to stay abreast of the latest policies.
